ecopro News "Defense of Ukraine" - two mandatory hours per week: changes to the educational program approved

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has adopted changes to the Model Educational Program of general secondary education institutions through Order No. 890 dated June 20, 2025. One of the key initiatives is increasing the mandatory load for the subject "Defense of Ukraine" to 2 hours per week.

According to the updated program, high school students will have a consistent workload of 2 hours per week in grades 10-11, up from the previous range of 1.5-2 hours. This decision aims to provide practical preparation for students to meet contemporary challenges and ensures sufficient time for mastering essential life skills.

Additional hours will allow for integrating an updated learning concept, where students acquire practical skills through training in regional educational centers instead of traditional lectures. The increased weekly workload will promote deeper study of topics such as tactical medicine, unmanned systems technology, combating disinformation, and other personal defense skills.

The innovations will come into effect at the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year and will encompass all general education institutions.
