During sectoral forums for methodologists in the fields of language, literature, and mathematics, the initial results of implementing the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine's 'Education for Life' policy were presented. Organized by the 'Osvitoria' public union with support from the Ministry and financial assistance from the 'Education Cannot Wait' fund under UNICEF, the event focused on updating educational content for grades 5–6 of the New Ukrainian School. As part of the event, the 'Education for Life' digital platform was also introduced, consolidating state standards, model curricula, and practical pedagogical tools to track learning outcomes from grades 1 to 12.Key focus was placed on presenting new practice-oriented courses designed to foster life competencies in students. Specifically, a pilot for the 'Reading as a Superpower' course was launched in 5th grade, aimed at developing mindful reading and critical information analysis involving Ukrainian language teachers and librarians. Meanwhile, an interdisciplinary 'Mathematics for Life' course was developed for the mathematics sector, implemented by 54 educational institutions starting September 2026. The course learning materials are built around project-based activities and solving real-world everyday and professional problems using mathematical tools.
The presented developments will serve as a foundation for regional methodological support for teachers, helping to effectively integrate a competency-based approach into lessons. The implementation of the 'Education for Life' policy is carried out by the Ministry within the joint program with the World Bank, 'Enhancing Accessibility and Resilience of Education in Times of Crisis in Ukraine' (LEARN), funded with support from the Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform Trust Fund (URTF).
