JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," in cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the Rapid Response Unit of the Red Cross, and the Juvenile Prevention Department of the National Police, organized and conducted educational and rescue exercises for children. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among young people about railway safety and to demonstrate the potential consequences of violating safety rules.
In its official statement, Ukrzaliznytsia highlighted a concerning statistic: since the beginning of this year, 18 minors have lost their lives due to the neglect of basic safety regulations on railway facilities. To prevent such tragic incidents, a series of practical training sessions was conducted. During the simulated emergency—a fire caused by contact with overhead electrical wires—more than 100 railway workers and emergency responders practiced coordinated rescue procedures, including:
-
Disconnecting the overhead power supply;
-
Evacuating passengers from the danger zone;
-
Providing first aid to the injured;
-
Coordinating the actions of emergency services on site.
Over 60 children aged between 5 and 16 observed the training. After the simulation, a dedicated safety lesson was held for the children, focusing on proper conduct on railway premises and ways to recognize mine and fire hazards.
“Railway safety is a shared responsibility. We will continue to initiate and implement educational programs for children and youth to promote a culture of safety awareness and reduce the risk of accidents on railway infrastructure,” emphasized representatives of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia."
