During the 5th Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, held in Kyiv under the theme "Education that Shapes the World," the results of an international study conducted in 14 countries were presented. The survey covered young people aged 15–17 and their parents.Half of the surveyed Ukrainian teenagers believe that the main purpose of education is to prepare them for adult life (compared to 44% of their peers globally).
What students want to learn:
• Creative thinking – 40%
• Mindfulness and responsibility – 38%
• Teamwork and emotional resilience – 32%
• Motivation and self-awareness – 31%
Parents' perspective:
Ukrainian parents particularly emphasize the importance of including modern skills in the school curriculum, such as:
• Cybersecurity
• Financial literacy
• Psychological support
• Sex education
• Health basics
The role of the teacher is changing:
37% of Ukrainian students expect emotional support from teachers, in addition to knowledge. This is significantly higher than the global average (31%). According to students, a modern teacher should be a mentor, a friend, and a guide in personal development.
Civic engagement and patriotism:
• Over 90% of Ukrainian teenagers believe that education shapes a conscious citizen and a culture of peace.
• 44% are already involved in volunteer or social projects.
• 79% view school as a center for national and patriotic education.
Key skills for the future:
• Communication – 48%
• Teamwork – 44%
This once again underscores the importance of in-person learning, where social interaction plays a crucial role.
