Starting September 1, 2027, the updated 'Defense of Ukraine' course will be implemented across all general secondary education institutions in the country. The learning process has been fully transitioned to a practice-oriented training format, supported by a newly developed manual featuring 140 ready-to-use lesson plans. In addition to core training — tactical medicine, marksmanship, and FPV drone piloting — high school students will have the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in specialized fields, including engineering, cybersecurity, and unmanned systems. The program relies on a network of 1,027 specially equipped learning hubs serving students from multiple schools, currently covering approximately 80% of Ukraine's high school students.
A total of 2.1 billion UAH has been allocated to fund the reform, supporting the creation and equipping of educational spaces, alongside over 100 million UAH dedicated to the professional development and advanced training of teaching staff. The practical effectiveness of the course was demonstrated at the 2nd All-Ukrainian 'Defense of Ukraine – 2026' Forum, where 19 student teams from various regions tested their skills in a team quest covering tactical medicine, marksmanship, obstacle courses, and Tiny Whoop FPV drone piloting.
Project coordination was led by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Center 'Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,' with contributions from the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine 'Azov,' the 12th Special Forces Brigade 'Azov,' SkyFall Academy, IBIS, and L7 Simulators.
