Online Course: How Communities Can Establish Energy Communities

The NGO "Sustainable Development Agency SYNERGY" is announcing the recruitment for a basic online course: “From Idea to Energy Community: How Local Communities Can Develop Renewable Energy.” The course is open to representatives of local authorities, NGOs, initiative groups, and businesses. Applications are accepted until November 30, 2025. Participants who successfully complete the training will receive not only knowledge but also voucher support for the further implementation of their projects.

The training program covers the basic principles of establishing and functioning of green energy communities, successful European case studies, the formation of financial/management models, communication with stakeholders, and orientation in the legislative framework of Ukraine and the EU. Energy communities are associations of citizens, businesses, and local authorities for the joint ownership and management of renewable energy projects. This enhances energy independence, reduces costs, retains profit within the community, and contributes to decarbonization.

The course consists of 5 theoretical modules (20 hours of material, up to 6 weeks to complete) and an acceleration part. The theoretical modules involve self-study of materials, tests, and short assignments. The practical component includes developing the concept of a real green energy community project. Assignments are completed individually or in teams.

To receive the certificate and participate in the acceleration phase, all practical assignments must be completed and submitted by January 17, 2026. The best teams will receive voucher support, which includes expert legal, financial, and technical assistance for finalizing business plans, feasibility studies (TEO), and other documentation. The project is implemented with the support of the European Climate Foundation.
