In Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk region, a two-week international training session was conducted to prepare rescuers for operations in challenging water environments. The training was initiated by the Canadian organization Firefighter Aid Ukraine, as part of a partnership between the Prykarpattia region and Alberta, Canada.
The program encompassed a wide range of practical exercises. Participants trained in self-rescue techniques, navigation, and maneuvering in aquatic environments, particularly in strong currents. Special emphasis was placed on the proper use of personal protective equipment such as dry suits, rescue helmets, and life vests. A key component of the training involved casualty evacuation using specialized equipment, including rescue ropes.
The sessions also featured simulated scenarios of mass emergencies—such as a vehicle plunging into water or sudden river level surges—allowing participants to develop coordinated response strategies and practice teamwork under high-pressure conditions.
Canadian instructors praised the high level of professionalism demonstrated by Ukrainian rescuers and their readiness to respond rapidly to emergencies. They also underscored the importance of regularly updating specialized rescue equipment, much of which is provided through international support.
The training was organized by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration in collaboration with the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the region.
