Greece invites school teachers to an intensive AI course

Greece is aiming to become a leader in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, having signed an agreement with OpenAI. As early as next week, teachers from 20 secondary schools will begin intensive training on how to use a specialized, academic version of ChatGPT.

The initiative, reported by The Guardian, makes Greece one of the first European countries to utilize the generative model for school teaching. Minister of Education Sophia Zacharaki emphasized: "We have to recognize that AI is here."

Initially, educators will master AI for lesson planning and personalized learning. The pilot program is set to be expanded nationwide in January.

Next spring, high school students will also be allowed to use ChatGPT Edu, but under strict ministerial control.

OpenAI has committed to overseeing the application of "advanced best practices for the safe and effective use of the chatbot in classrooms," which, according to Chris Lehane of OpenAI, opens a "new chapter in the history of education" in Greece.
