Agatha Christie “revived” as virtual tutor for beginner writing course

The legendary mystery writer Agatha Christie has been “revived” by BBC Studios, with a neural network recreating her voice and likeness to serve as a virtual instructor in a new writing course for aspiring authors, the company announced on its website.

Artificial intelligence transformed actress Vivien Kien’s appearance to resemble Christie, bringing the Queen of Crime to life on screen.

The course, Writing with Agatha Christie, was developed by scholars specializing in Christie’s life and work, including Dr. Mark Aldridge, Michelle Kazmer, Grey Robert Brown, and Jamie Bernthal-Hooker. Using Christie’s own words and insights, they recreated her writing philosophy and techniques.

In the lessons, virtual Agatha Christie offers guidance on story structure, crafting characters, building intrigue, creating plot twists, and much more.

Entirely original and rooted in Christie’s personal experience, the course draws from restored archival interviews, private letters, and her literary works, which AI has helped reconstruct and bring to a modern audience.

The Agatha Christie writing course features 11 lessons and 12 practical exercises. It is now available on the platform bbcmaestro.com, with a one-year access pass priced at £79.
